Bankstown bulls junior Marcelo Montoya has capped an amazing 2016 with a starring role in Fiji’s two point win over Samoa.

A local junior and an outstanding finisher who has committed to the club for a further two seasons; Montoya took his game to a new level in 2016 that included 19 tries in 18 games for the Bulldogs NYC side, six tries in seven games in the Intrust Super premiership, before scoring a try in Fiji’s 20-18 win at Apia Park inthe first ever official Test match in Samoa.

A confident and mature young player that led from the front, Montoya’s consistent footy ultimately resulted in him receiving the captaincy throughout the 2016 NYC season due to the injury to Darcy Maroske.

A talented outside back who can play on the wing or fullback and a player who loves to contribute to his team on the field and throughout the NYC season, Montoya managed to score 19 tries, clock up 19 line breaks, 64 tackles breaks and average 12 runs a game for 133m.

Away from the rugby league field, Montoya juggles three days of part-time work at Casula Public School as a teacher’s aide and a bachelor of primary education at Western Sydney University.

The 20-year old has been rewarded for his results on the field and his attitude off it with an opportunity to train with the full-time squad over the summer in preparation for the 2017 season.

Some bright news in an otherwise gloomy post season. The kid needs nurturing but he can play.

2 years. Just long enough for him to crack the top grade consistently, then sign to play for a better coach.
